This is a follow-up to my earlier post, here. My pal Dr. Luke, the self-nicknamed ‘fatguy’,ran his first full marathon last spring. I ran wingman, because:i wanted to be there when he kicked its ass.
He was (rightly) nervous at the start line, but each time that welled up,he simply reminded himself of all the hard work he’d done in training. In snow, wind, rain, alone,in groups, while he could have been doing something else, anything else –something easy.
He was (rightly) proud when,42.2km later,he crossed the finish line. Along the way there were plenty of opportunities to bail out,to slow down,to walk,to complain –all distractions. For 42.2km he stayed on-task and, frankly, kicked that job’s ass.
THAT is why I like running ‘too far’,lifting things that are ‘too heavy’,and living life as an entrepreneur –there’s nothing quite like a big job well done.
